Welcome to my favourite room in our house! I’m not even joking :-)
As a lover of all things property, I am an avid fan of home magazines such as Your Home and Ideal Home, also loving to follow fellow property obsessed people on Instagram and search hashtags for inspiration.
I have lusted after beautiful utility/boot rooms for some time, so when we started our search, for our forever home up here in Scotland, this was high up on my list.
We were lucky and we actually have a really good size Utility room. Unfortunately, due to the age of the house, it also houses a very large, old style boiler (we did look into Getting this covered but that’s another story)
Here’s how the room looked when we moved in...
At first, we thought we would put another butler sink in here to match our kitchen but adding a bend in the worktop would have lost us a lot of space, which we are using for our clothes airers, so we decided against adding a sink in.
I fell in love with a B&Q kitchen design in grey with rose gold handles and a wooden effect worktop, also managed to get Krys to agree to add the little wine rack in on the end! Very important of course! Although our kitchen is large. There isn’t actually a lot of cupboard space, therefore we knew we could extend the storage into the utility room and went for some wall fitted cupboards in here too.
We had a Joiner (recommended to us due to Krys’ construction work history) here for almost a full
day, fitting the units. When it came to fitting the unit B&Q had sold us to cover the big boiler, it didn’t fit, dispite having them out to see and measure up the room (seems it was a computer error when the measurements were put in) so at the moment we are leaving it but we could get our joiner to make something bespoke at some point in the future.

Lastly, comes the floor! I’d seen a beautiful Victorian pattern vinyl in a furniture store in Perth called Gillies when we first moved in and this was always the one!
We had the fitters out twice as the current floor was very uneven and had patches of concrete. They latexed the concrete and boarded the rest then came back to fit the vinyl.
I still want to add accessories in here, such as shelves and hooks but it helps (a little bit) with the chore of washing.
Thankyou for reading.
